Mottainai - Waste Not, Want Not

Mottainai: Inspired by the Japanese concept of finding the intrinsic value in unwanted materials, we proudly donate and upcycle in various ways to provide a second life for Ultrafabrics.

Since implementing the program in 2018, we have been able to divert 25,000 yards from the landfill.

Recent projects:New Jersey Performance Arts Center & First Ave Elementary

NJPAC has connections to some of the most economically challenged communities within New Jersey. Ultrafabrics and NJPAC work to donate materials into several after-school arts programs, such as high school wood-shops, community theatre, and dance programs. One particular organization was the First Ave Elementary School where special education teachers are teaching children how to sew.

The Root Cellar

Based in Maine, The Root Cellar, has been involved in the community since 1984, running two sewing programs a week for women and teenage girls who have recently arrived in the United States as refugees and asylum seekers. The programs focus on a structured class where each participant has projects where they learn different tangible sewing skills from basic, up to more advanced, depending on their level of dedication and ability. Ultrafabrics has donated materials to the Root Cellar since 2018.
